Alexandre Chapeaux graduated from Syracuse University with a B.S. in Chemical Engineering. While working on that degree, Alex was a member of various groups and committees which dealt with diversity, discrimination, education, response, and awareness. Through Team Against Bias, he had the opportunity to educate campus students and administrators on issues of diversity, sexuality; sexual orientation as well as respond to hate crimes and the bias incidents that are prevalent on a college campus. He also developed many bonds between various communities on campus, namely: among diverse religious affiliations (Catholic, Protestant, Hindu and Jewish students), among various sexual orientations (lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender - LGBT - students and heterosexual allies) and within his department of engineering.
Since Alex started working on his Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering at Notre Dame, he has worked closely with the LGBT community on campus in a number of ways; he has developed events, programs and a retreat in conjunction with the Standing Committee for Gay and Lesbian Student Needs (now renamed the Core Council), and he has served as a presenter for CommUnity - a program for first-year students designed to create a more welcoming environment for all students at Notre Dame regardless of sexual orientation. As a Graduate Consultant at the Gender Relations Center, Alex's primary responsibility is that he co-advises Men Against Violence (MAV), a group of men who are committed to ending sexual assault and domestic violence in the community. Additionally, he helps design and facilitate many Gender Relations Center programs in the residence halls.
