Event Description

The Men's Program - This is a group that meets every other Tuesday at 7:00pm in 312 LaFortune Blue Room. This is a great way engage your students, staff, or man talk leaders in training about conversations and topics that they can bring back to your staff and hall. Meeting dates and topics are listed below.

Program Overview: Participants are invited to engage in conversation about: “What kind of man do I want to be?”, “What do I think it means to be a man?” and “In what ways does society influence my thoughts about masculinity?” The discussion is for individuals who may have never discussed masculinity before in their lives.  The end goal of the program is to disrupt the participant’s traditional ways of knowing and their understanding of masculinity and patriarchy.  Sessions are 1 hour in length.

Tuesday, September 18- Session 1:  Social Construction of Masculinity and the Man Box

Tuesday, October 2- Session 2: Self identity

Tuesday, October 23- Session 3: Privilege, Oppression, Sexism and Misogyny

Tuesday, October 30- Session 4: Masculinity in the Media

Tuesday, November 6- Session 5:  Emotions, Masculinity and Violence

Tuesday, November 20- Session 6: Becoming agents for change- Unconscious and Conscious Sexism
