Apply to Be a FIRE Starter
Requirements:
- Complete an application, including an essay and letter of recommendation from a professor, staff member or peer.
- Attend a mandatory overnight training retreat, prior to the start of the fall semester.
- Agree to a 10-hour minimum commitment of service per semester, including:
- Assist in the development and/or execution of at least three GRC programs each semester, including one from the Violence Prevention Initiative.
- Participate in monthly meetings.
- Help to hang publicity posters around campus.
- Attend one supervision meeting per semester with the Assistant Director of the GRC.
Benefits of being a FIRE Starter:
- Gain knowledge and confidence through leadership training to:
- Design and implement programs.
- Deliver presentations to a variety of audiences.
- Facilitate small-group discussions.
- Learn more about topics such as Body Image and Eating Disorders, Sexuality, Rape and Sexual Assault, and Dating and Relating.
- Give back to the Notre Dame by serving as a role model and making a difference in the community.
- Participate in hands-on planning and execution of programs that are designed by students for students.
- Have fun! FIRE Starters are a dynamic and diverse group of students who get to know one another on the retreat and spend time together throughout the year at ongoing trainings, programs and social gatherings.
