This informal program is designed to match students who are questioning, closeted/not out, or new to the university with a returning LGBTQ or an actively engaged ally student to serve as a peer mentor. This program is designed for students to have someone they can reach out to for information, peer to peer advice, and general support at Notre Dame.
Applications will be accepted for both mentees and mentors on a rolling basis. As students apply requesting a mentor, mentees and mentors will be matched together by the Assistant Director for LGBTQ Student Initiatives. Sara Agostinelli, the Assistant Director for LGBTQ Student Initiatives will be the only person reviewing both the mentor and mentee applications.
Mentees will receive the name and contact information for their mentor. Mentors will be notified they have been matched with a mentee, but will not be given the mentee's personal information. Initial contact will be made by the mentee, allowing them to decide what information they are comfortable with disclosing. Students will also receive a monthly email with information about upcoming campus events.
Mentee Applications are for students who are questioning, closeted/not out, and new to the university who would like to be matched with a returning LGBTQ or actively engaged ally student. Only Sara Agostinelli, Assistant Director of LGBTQ Student Initiatives & Administration, will review information shared in this application. Students can provide any information they wish to be considered for matching purposes. Students can also request to meet with Sara one-on-one first to talk about what they are hoping for from the LGBTQ mentor program if they prefer to discuss in person versus putting information in writing.
Mentor Applications are for returning students that want to serve as a peer mentor for students who are questioning, closeted/not out, or new to the university. Mentors will be required to meet with Sara Agostinelli, Assistant Director of LGBTQ Student Initiatives & Administration, to discuss expectations of the program and expectations of privacy for the mentees.
If you have any questions about the LGBTQ & Ally Peer Mentoring Program, please contact Sara Agostinelli, Assistant Director for LGBTQ Student Initiatives.
