Men Against Violence - MAV
No matter what you DO… Be A Man Against Violence!
MAV is a task force of the Gender Relations Center. The group formed in the Fall of 2005 and is advised through the Gender Relations Center and the Office of Alcohol and Drug Education.
MAV Mission Statement
Men Against Violence (MAV) is committed to ending all sexual assault and domestic violence in our community.
- MAV proposes a different measure for masculinity.
- MAV reinforces positive aspects of the male identity to replace the harmful social norms which interfere with society reaching its full potential. Men will claim the issue of sexual and domestic violence as their own when they are approached by other men who have done so. This is the principle on which MAV exists.
- As such, MAV challenges male leaders to be outspoken about ending sexual assault and domestic violence, and gives men the appropriate tools to change our community. Through the empowerment of these male leaders, MAV creates an amplified social accountability for the crimes of rape, sexual assault and domestic abuse.
- As sons, brothers, cousins, uncles, friends, boyfriends, future fathers, or future husbands, and as men, we pledge to end sexual assault and domestic violence in our community.
